ORCaSa in USA for a MRV workshop

After a first part in August 2023, the continuation of the KISS workshop took place from 26th Feb. to 1st March in California. ‘It was a great opportunity to develop a shared vision of Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV) for cropland between the ORCaSa European partners and the United States and to set the basis of a strong and long term collaboration on those topics in the frame of the International Research Consortium (IRC) on soil carbon“, said Eric Ceschia.

‘Managing soil organic carbon for climate change mitigation – multiscale quantification through remote sensing, AI and biogeochemical models’ workshop took place from 26th Feb. to 1st March.

On 26th of February to March 1st 2024, Eric Ceschia (INRAE/CESBIO) took part in the second phase of the workshop on “Managing soil organic carbon for climate change mitigation – multiscale quantification through remote sensing, AI and biogeochemical models”, organised at CALTECH (Pasadena, California) by Michigan State University, Colorado State University, US Department of Agriculture, California Institute of Technology, and Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The overall goal of this KISS workshop is to envision a state-of-the-art, big data & model platform, that is both distributed and community-based, and that can serve as a foundation for high quality-low cost quantification and analyses of soil carbon and soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agricultural land use, across scales from farm- to national-level. Development and implementation of this technology is critical to enable agricultural soils to play a significant role in CO2 removal and to reduce non-CO2 GHG emissions from soils.
